BOTANICAL DESCRIPTIONS
Habit :
Dryobalanops aromatica also known as Kapur is a large, emergent tree, up to 75 m tall. Kapur is known for having 'crown shyness', a phenomenon where the crown of the trees does not touch or overlap with each other. The name 'aromatica' is reffered to the resinuous smell, due to the allelochemical (camphor ) released by the trees, that caused them to stop growing. This phenomenon happens only among kapur trees. The species also has fragrant, white flowers and winged fruits, one of the typical character of Dipterocarpaceae.
